Xiaolu Guo

Xiaolu Guo is a novelist, memoirist and filmmaker who explores migration, alienation, memory, personal journeys, feminism, translation and transnational identities. She directs both documentaries and fiction movies. Her most well-known films include She, a Chinese and We Went to Wonderland. Documentaries include amongst others: Five Men And A Caravaggio (London Film Festival 2018), Late At Night, Voices of ordinary madness (Busan International Film Festival, London Film Festival 2013) and Ufo In Her Eyes (Toronto International Film Festival 2011). In 2013, Xiaolu was named as one of the Granta magazine’s Best of Young British Novelists, a list drawn up once a decade. Her novel A lover’s discourse was awarded with the Goldsmith Prize 2020 and the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction 2021. Other publications include Once upon a time in the East and I Am China, one of a NPR’s Best books of 2014.
