With the inauguration of LaMouseion, LABIOMISTA – the evolving work of art by artist Koen Vanmechelen in collaboration with the city of Genk – enters its third season. The installation once again proves that Koen Vanmechelen is one of the most socially relevant artists in Flanders. Three knowledge containers invite young people in particular to reflect on the future, in the same free spirit that typifies Vanmechelen’s ‘wild gene’.
The Belgian composer and sound designer Poltrock releases his soundtrack for Wild Gene – The Art of Koen Vanmechelen, Joris Gijsen’s biopic of Belgian artist Koen Vanmechelen. Both, soundtrack and documentary, are now available for streaming worldwide.
In this lockdown year 2020, and in honor of the 20th anniversary of the artist’s Cosmopolitan Chicken Project (CCP), we invite 1000 people from around the world to become a co-writer in a handwritten edition of the Book of Genomes.
In compliance with increased restrictions against the coronavirus, LABIOMISTA will go into winter mode early this year. Visitors will only be able to use LABIOMISTA for walks.
Sunday, 9 August, moth catchers counted around 6000 moths at various locations in Genk, belonging to over 300 different species. The count is part of a remarkable art project by artist Koen Vanmechelen, in collaboration with Bart Van Camp and the city of Genk.
