Animals at Trudoabdij x Koen Vanmechelen, Medusa

Trudoabdij, Sint-Truiden (BE)
23 - 30 April 2023

Sunday, April 23, is Flemish Heritage Day. Following the theme "Beastly," Abdij, Stad en Regio vzw is organizing "Animals in the Trudoabdij x Koen Vanmechelen Welcome to the Wunderkammer" in the Emperors' Hall of Trudoabdij in Sint-Truiden. Vanmechelens' Medusa will be on display here, a hybrid taxidermy sculpture of a reptile and a guinea fowl.

Symbolic animals

Abdij, Stad en Regio vzw delves into abbey history from the 7th century AD and brings together strange and symbolic animals in "Wunderkammer. Courtesy of the seminary and the subsequent school, an extensive collection is emerging with an extensive study collection of taxidermy animals and other natural objects such as fossils and minerals.

Koen Vanmechelen's artwork "Medusa" is perfectly expressed here; the hybrid sculpture breaks through the boundaries of the conventional and creates diversity in the abbey

Medusa

In this "lost science museum of the Minor Seminary," the fossils come back to life and literally and figuratively break out of the old arrangements. Koen Vanmechelen's artwork "Medusa" is perfectly expressed here; the hybrid sculpture breaks through the boundaries of the conventional and creates diversity in the abbey. It forms an interesting dialogue with the artist's permanent CCPPCC installation on the church field.
