On Sunday, November 8, Koen Vanmechelen is exceptionally opening the doors to his studio in The Battery. A unique opportunity to take a peek behind the scenes at the place where his work comes to life, ideas grow, and new projects take shape.
Normally, The Battery is not accessible to visitors. During Open Studio, you get a glimpse into what is currently happening in the studio: works in development, new ideas, and preparations for future exhibitions. From sculptures and drawings to glass, bronze, and marble—everything comes together here in an environment that is constantly in motion.
This year, there is even more to discover. For the first time during Open Studio, you can also visit TERRANIDI. Koen Vanmechelen's new gallery opens with an exhibition centered around "earth": organic forms and nests emerge from clay, alongside works in bronze, glass, and marble. An ode to matter as the origin: vulnerable, fertile, and constantly evolving.
TERRANIDI takes Vanmechelen's work from Genk to museums, institutions, public spaces, and collections worldwide. In this way, Open Studio brings together two spaces you wouldn't normally just step into: the studio where the work is created and TERRANIDI, from where it finds its way out into the world.
Practical Information
Places for the Open Studio are limited, so please book your ticket in advance. Residents of Genk and children and young people up to 18 years old have free admission, but here too, we recommend reserving a spot.
