IT'S ABOUT TIME, Serlachius Museums

MANTTA (FI)
19 May - 16 September 2018

The internationally acclaimed Belgian artist Koen Vanmechelen takes over Serlachius Museum Gösta and its surrounding park. His exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, video, photography and large bio-installations and it offers an in-depth overview into his unique art. The latest stage of his famous breeding program for chicken is also included.

Vanmechelen works on the edges on art, nature and science. Key concepts of his art include diversity, domestication and cross-breeding. A deeply ethical artist, he is concerned about the state of the Earth and a sustainable future for all species. He seeks both symbolically and concretely to open perspectives into a future where people do not exploit nature or each other but live in a state of balance.

Vanmechelen has exhibited world-wide for more than 20 years and participated i.e. the Documenta and the Venice Biennial. This is his first solo exhibition in the Nordic countries.
